Film Series & Festivals
Film presentations and festivals, readings, expositions, concerts and other cultural events play an important role in AfricAvenir's holistic approach. They enable participants to immerse into the African world and get a glimpse of the diversity and multidimensionality of African cultures.

Jenseits der engen Perspektive europäischer und us-amerikanischer Medien, die Afrika auf seine Misere oder Exotik reduzieren, bieten afrikanische Filme einen differenzierten Einblick in die Vielfalt des Kontinents und dessen aktuelle gesellschaftliche Konflikte. Trotz oft auswegloser finanzieller und struktureller Probleme hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren ein gesellschaftskritisches Kino mit hohem realistischen Anspruch entwickelt, hervorgebracht durch eine neue Generation von Filmemachern und Filmemacherinnen. Dieses Seminar bietet einen Einblick in die Vielfältigkeit des Filmschaffens in Afrika und die Möglichkeit, eurozentrische Blickweisen auf afrikanische Realitäten zu hinterfragen.

In July 2001, AfricAvenir organised its first Filmfestival in Berlin. The movies and documentaries selected did not deny or belittle the harsh African realities, but their stories and their protagonists also convey the incredible strength, the enormous power and the sense of irony and humour of people in the face of troubles and catastrophes. >>>
