African Palaver

The African palaver is the traditional form of deliberation and discussion of most traditional African societies. The goal is to reach a consensus between the members of a community or its different interest groups. The search for consensus however does not necessarily involve a complete identity of moral or cognitive opinions or the imposition of a point of view on people who may not share it. On the contrary, the crucial point is that the groundwork is done to ensure that everybody taking part in the deliberation brings to it their own vision in order to make up a point of view with which everyone freely agrees. AfricAvenir has taken up this tradition with great success. African palavers take place in villages and town districts and in local languages.
